The Help Wanted Newspaper (The Challenger)[]

Help Wanted screen

Help Wanted Screen

The Help Wanted cases come to Orchid Island as newspaper ads in The Challenger, which always seems to be the current "(Insert Day of the Week) Edition" of 1927.

There are always three concurrent Help Wanted cases available: the first, left most, slot is assigned the easiest variations from the available pool of assignments; the second slot contains the mid-level options; while the third and final slot is for the more difficult to achieve cases. From left to right the abundance of rewards for each case completed increases, according to the difficulty of each tier.

Challenger Prize[]

The Challenger Prize is usually one 5-Star Box, though there used to be different rewards like compasses, too. The Prize can be earned by collecting a certain amount of challenger tokens, usually 82. These tokens are earned by solving the cases assigned to June. There is a progress bar at the top of the Challenger newspaper tracking the amount of tokens already collected. Once the final goal is reached, the prize will be awarded; then progress will start from scratch, with any excess tokens rolled into the next climb for the prize - For how many challenger tokens a case provides, see the Rewards section below.

Flash Bonus[]

During Memoirs events there will be scheduled, limited-time, bonus challenger prize opportunities. These events do not start automatically, but instead activate once a certain threshold of challenger points (tokens) is acquired. Once activated there is a 45 minute constraint, within which the bonus prize is available. A reddish timer-ring around the Help Wanted icon will indicate that this singular chance for the bonus prize has started. The opportunity to activate Flash Bonus, not the play-time itself, generally last a few days. The extra prize will be either an additional 5-star box or one of the different grades of Memoirs packs.

Rewards[]

Solving cases always awards players with challenger tokens towards obtaining a final prize; and additionally with either coins, energy, diamonds, and occasionally items for a specific event.

Detective League[]

When a Detective League is ongoing, solved Help Wanted cases provide League Points (blue ribbons), which go towards the entire team's rank within a subdivision of Detective League.

Detectives Needed[]

Detectives Needed is a limited time event that offers a trail of prizes that can be earned through the completion of hidden object scenes, but to an even greater extent by the completion of Help Wanted cases. During these events, finishing cases will provide varying amounts of Winding Keys (officially called tokens) which are currency towards attaining the currently offered prizes.

Extra Edition[]

Sometimes there will be a special boosted rewards event, during which an increased amount of tokens are rewarded for solving help wanted cases. The specific boost count given for challenger tokens will vary slightly with each session of Extra Edition. There is a green timer-ring, that will appear around the Help Wanted icon, indicating that Extra Edition is ongoing. These sessions typically last one whole day (24 hours), but can be as long as 48 hours.

Receiving new cases[]

After completing a Help Wanted case, a timer starts to count down for when there will be a new case in that slot. For the first case slot it, takes 3 hours, for the second slot it takes 8 hours and for the third slot it takes 16 hours. These time limitations can be avoided by watching ads or using skips (tickets for skipping ads).

If desired, a currently assigned case can be swapped for a different randomly selected case. By clicking the red (refresh) icon in the upper right corner of the case' slot, a new assignment will be given. The first refresh is free - then within 24 hours - each additional swap costs an escalating amount of diamonds. The second swap costs 6 diamonds, the third 12 diamonds and after that all swaps cost 24 diamonds.

List of Cases[]

Different tasks are assigned in order to complete cases. Most cases appear in any of the three slots at varying degrees of difficulty. Though, some are exclusive to two or even one specific slot. Equivalent case types do not get offered simultaneously. (i.e. requests to gift 1, 3, or 6 bushes won't be present at the same time, in any combination)

The specifics for solving each case have and likely will continue to change over time.

1 Methods include: the opening of star boxes; the uprooting of butterfly bushes; as rewards from basic gameplay and weekly competitions; prizes from the myriad of available events; purchases made with in-game currency such as café tips or déjà vu tokens; purchases made with real life currency from the in-game or web shops.

2 These methods include: opening star boxes; sporadically through the course regular play; directly from uprooting marmalade bushes; as a reward for completing sectors in club mysteries.

3 If Sweep the Board is fully accomplished before any contingent HW case meets the drawn requirement, then accomplishment will also be awarded for those cases.

Former Cases[]

Some cases are no longer offered in the game:

  • Beat Jack Hayes on the leaderboard. To complete this task, earn more points in any scene than Jack Hayes. In order to track your progress, check the leaderboard when it appears on the screen.
  • Remove ribbons from decorations or buildings. To complete this task, you need to place a new decoration on the island and wait for the completion of construction. You can also complete this task by upgrading buildings or repairing sights. The return of items from the store is also counted. You will understand that the item is suitable for the task when a red ribbon appears on it.

Tips on completing cases[]

If you want to prepare to complete a lot of cases in a certain time frame, i.e. for an event, you may want to:

  • Reserve several bushes.
  • Save up on standard-star and 5-star boxes.
  • Don't collect tips in the café immediately, just leave them, they will accumulate until you tap on the tip jar.
  • Only unwrap newly finished decorations when you need the flowers.
  • Wait to upgrade the Orchid Island buildings.
  • Maybe don't collect the coins from the Estate too often. It only reaches capacity after 10 hours.
  • Choose not to buy seasonal decorations until requested to do so.
  • Reserve Memoir packs and déjà vu tokens until requested to use them.
